The Panamanian Tourism Authority (ATP), realized a donation of 20 thousand dollars for the restoration of the Biggest Square of the Monumental Set of Panama, better acquaintance as Old Panama.
The payment of money was delivered by the general manager of the ATP, Salo Shamah to Ernesto Boyd, president of the Patronage of The Old Panama.
The donation is a part of an agreement signed between both parts that compromises the Patronage to realize the project with an estimated cost of 600 thousand within a period of three years.
This effort contemplates the recreation of a housing of the XVIIth century and an infantile interactive museum.
It was in September of last year when the Patronage of the Old Panama presented publicly the project Recovery of the Biggest Square of Old Panama.
Boyd repeated the commitment of the organization with the conservation and development of Old Panama in order to transform it into an archaeological, historical and cultural park and, emphasized that the principal projects that have been carried out in thirteen years of work are continued by the Patronage.
The project thinks about how to contribute with the interpretation of the space of the square, recovering the apples that were defining it and part of the volume that was framing it and it will be done in three stages – the colonial house, the interactive museum and the small squares.
The manager of the ATP, Salo Shamah, said that Old Panama is the second place most visited by tourists after the Panama Canal.
Old Panama was the first Spanish city been founded on the coast of the Pacific Ocean of America on August 15, 1519 by Pedro Arias de Ávila, from where there went out the expeditions that culminated with the conquest of the Inca Empire of Peru in 1532.
Also, it was a terminal point of one of the most important commercial routes of the history of the American continent and that turned concerning the famous fairs of Name of God and Portobelo and in which it is believed that during his life period was from there where came almost all the gold and the silver that Spain obtained of America.
Its fire, destruction and plundering happened in 1671 when it was taken by the pirate Henry Morgan, which produced a change and construction of the new city of Panama in 1673 and which today is known as Old town.
Old Panama is one of the urban attractions that can be visited easily and cover its monuments walking along its old cobbled covered streets of lawn to know its history of more than 476 years.
The Panamanian Government by means of the Law 91 of December 22, 1976 declared old Panama a Historical Monumental Set.
